Chicken Nuggets

Ever since we started our experiments with food, the oven has been a much better friend of ours than the deep fry pan. We have hardly ever deep fried stuff and just tried to stay away from those recipes as much as possible. And in some cases, as was this time, tried to convert some of them to "baked" recipes.

Chicken nuggets is a classic Western snack, found in many beer bars and fast food chains. And when you make the baked version, it turns to a rather healthy recipe - completely oil free with all the nutrition of lean chicken.

We wouldn't claim this to be our own recipe and there is limited innovation here. However, we felt the need to share it with all of you so you can enjoy the fun of a delicious appetizer without the unnecessary fat and calories.

Ingredients

250 gms boneless chicken, cut in ~1 inch pieces
1/2 cup Panko breadcrumbs (normal breadcrumbs would work too but wouldn't make the nuggets as crispy)
2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 egg, lightly beaten
Salt and pepper

Method

1. Wash and pat-dry the chicken. Coat with a pinch of salt and black pepper

2. Create a bowl of breadcrumbs, cheese, garlic powder and oregano

3. Make the assembly - start with the chicken, then dip it in flour to coat well, then the bowl with the egg, and finally the breadcrumb mixture. Make sure to coat the mixture well on all sides

4. Bake it in a pre-heated oven at maximum temperature for 8-10 minutes, tossing in between and watching carefully.

5. Serve with multiple dips like pizza or parmesan sauce and of course, the good old ketchup.
