Strawberry Smash

With fresh and juicy strawberries available in market these days, it was time to prepare a simple cocktail with these little delights. The flavour of strawberries combines really well with basil and lemon to make a very refreshing drink, best enjoyed on a hot summer evening.

Ingredients (for one glass)

5-6 strawberries, cut in quarters
4-5 basil leaves
60ml vodka/gin/white rum
10ml lime juice
1 tsp brown sugar
club soda to top
crushed ice

Method

1. In a cocktail mixer, add the strawberries, basil leaves, and brown sugar. Smash the strawberries using  a cocktail muddler or the side of a rolling-pin until the strawberries become soft and pulpy.

2. In a serving glass add the lime juice and the alcohol over crushed ice.

3. Add the strawberries mix either directly into the glass, or if you don't like fruit pieces in your drink, strain the mixture

4. Top it with club soda to fill the glass and add 1-2 basil leaves for garnish
