Old Monk Rum Balls

Ho ho ho ! The sounds of Santa Claus are abound in the air and celebrations have begun in each household. Christmas is no longer just a Christian holiday and here in Delhi, the festive feel is in the air and everywhere to be seen. With plans to host a few parties this season we wanted to treat guests with something decadent - and made these Chocolate Rum Balls. We have been seeing them get devoured bringing us immense joy these winters

Ingredients

250 gm digestive biscuits
1 tbsp cocoa
1/3 cup almonds
150 gm dark chocolate
50 gm milk chocolate
1/2 cup dark rum
Icing sugar for topping (optional)

Method

1. Grind the biscuits to a very fine biscuit flour

2. Grind the almonds and add to the biscuit flour along with the cocoa powder

3. Now melt 100 gm dark chocolate with 1/4 cup rum to form a smooth mixture. You can do this in microwave by running it in 30 sec bursts and mixing in between

4. Now is the time to create a rum dough (or a yum dough!). Mix the chocolate mix and biscuit flour together and keep pouring in the remaining 1/4th rum to create a glossy and hard to resist dough. Taste and add sugar / chocolate based on your liking

5. Create small balls out of the dough and chill for about 15 minutes to let it settle.

The rum balls are ready in itself and can be had like that but we wanted to coat them in chocolate to create the element of surprise.

6. Melt the dark and milk chocolate in separate bowls.

7. Make two sets of coated balls - with dark and milk chocolate and freeze for about 15 minutes to let it set

Serve them after sprinkling a bit of icing sugar and see it disappear in front of your eyes
